2 – “Night and day will not cease until al-Lāt and al-ʿUzzā are worshipped once more.” Aisha said, “Messenger of Allah, I used to think that when Allah revealed, ‘He it is who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth so that He may make it prevail over every religion, even though the polytheists detest it’ (1), the matter was settled.” He answered, “From that there will take place whatever Allah wills (2); then Allah will send a gentle breeze,

(2) This hadith makes clear that the dominance mentioned in the verse has not yet been fully realised; its complete fulfilment lies in the future. Although the sphere of Islam expanded after the Prophet’s death—especially under the Rightly Guided Caliphs—its perfection will only come when Islam prevails over the entire globe. This will certainly occur, for the Messenger of Allah said: “This cause will surely reach every place touched by night and day; Allah will not leave a house of clay nor a tent of hair without bringing this religion into it—honouring those whom He wills to be honoured and humiliating those whom He wills to be humiliated: honour by which Allah exalts Islam and humiliation by which He debases disbelief.” Reported by Ahmad (4/103); Ibn Bishran, Al-Amali (60/1); al-Tabarani, Al-Mu jam al-Kabir (1/126/1); Ibn Mandah, Kitab al-Iman (1/102); and Abd al-Ghani al-Maqdisi, Dhikr al-Islam (1/166), who declared it sound.
٢ - «لا يذهب الليل والنهار حتى تعبد اللات والعزى»،
فقالت عائشة : يا رسول الله ! إن كنت لأظن حين أنزل الله :
﴿هو الذي أرسل رسوله بالهدى ودين الحق ليظهره على
الدين كله ولو كره المشركون﴾ (١) أن ذلك تاماً ، قال : إنه
سيكون من ذلك ما شاء الله (٢) ، ثم يبعث الله ريحاً طيبة ،

(٢) في هذا الحديث بيان أن الظهور المذكور في الآية لم يتحقق بتمامه،
وإنما يتحقق في المستقبل ، وما لا شك فيه أن دائرة الظهور اتسعت بعد وفاته
ﷺ في زمن الخلفاء الراشدين ومن بعدهم، ولا يكون التمام إلا بسيطرة
الإسلام على جميع الكرة الأرضية، وسيتحقق هذا قطعاً لإخبار رسول الله
ﷺ بذلك، فقد صح عنه ﷺ أنه قال :
«ليبلغن هذا الأمر ما بلغ الليل والنهار، ولا يترك الله بيت مدر ولا وبر إلا
أدخله الله هذا الدين، بعز عزيز، أو بذل ذليل، عزاً يعز الله به الإسلام،
وذلاً يذل الله به الكفر».
