—to the lands of the unbelievers.
Moreover, the pertinent point in the ḥadith is that ʿAlī dispatched Abū al-Hayāj to level the graves; he was the chief of his guard. This is clear proof that ʿAlī—and likewise ʿUthmān, as evidenced by the previously cited report—both understood that this ruling remained valid after the Prophet’s death, contrary to al-Ghumarī’s assertion.
- Abū Burdah reported: When death approached Abū Mūsā he instructed, “When you carry my bier, walk quickly; let no censer follow me; place nothing in my burial niche that will come between me and the earth; and erect no structure over my grave. I call you to witness that I disown every woman who shaves her head, wails aloud, or tears her garment(1).” They asked, “Did you hear anything about this?” He replied, “Yes— from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.” (2)

إلى بلاد الكفار .
ثم إن موضع الشاهد من الحديث إنما هو بعث علي أبا
الهياج إلى تسوية القبور، وكان رئيس شرطته، ففيه دليل
واضح على أن علياً - وكذا عثمان رضي الله عنهما في الأثر
المتقدم - كانا يعلمان بقاء هذا الحكم بعد وفاته ﷺ خلافاً لما
زعمه الغماري .
٣ - عن أبي بردة قال : أوصى أبو موسى حين حضره
الموت فقال : إذا انطلقتم بجنازتي فأسرعوا المشي ولا يتبعني
مجمر، ولا تجعلوا في لحدي شيئاً يحول بيني وبين التراب،
ولا تجعلوا على قبري بناء وأشهدكم أني بريء من كل حالقة
أو سالقة أو خارقة(١)، قالوا : أو سمعت فيه شيئاً؟ قال :
نعم، من رسول الله ﷺ . (٢)
(١) (الحالقة) : هي التي تحلق شعرها عند المصيبة، و(السالقة) : التي ترفع
صوتها، و(الخارقة) : التي تخرق ثيابها عند المصيبة .
