and Majestic. No soul will have power to do anything for another except by Allah’s permission. Consequently, on that Day people will suffer such grief and anguish as they cannot bear. They will seek intercession from Adam, then Noah, then Abraham, then Moses, and then Jesus—peace and blessings be upon them—until the request reaches our Prophet—may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace. He will intercede by Allah’s permission, and Allah will relieve all creation from the distress of that standing. “And all command on that Day will belong to Allah” (1).
Someone may ask: Does all command not belong to Allah on that Day and at all other times?
We reply: Indeed, all command belongs to Allah Most High on the Day of Judgment and before it. However, the supremacy of His command will be far more manifest on that Day than it is in this world. In this world, a person may disobey the commands of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, while obeying the command of his master. Thus, in that person’s case, Allah’s command does not prevail. In the Hereafter, however, no command will prevail except that of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. This is like the words of Allah Most High: “To whom does all sovereignty belong today? To Allah, the One, the All-Subduing” [Ghāfir: 16]. Sovereignty belongs to Allah in this world and the Hereafter, but on that Day the absolute dominion and command of Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, will become manifest, and it will be clear that no one issues commands on that Day except Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He. Allah knows best. May Allah’s blessings and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad.
