had forgotten it in this world. But on the Day of Resurrection, his deeds will be presented, and every soul will know what it sent ahead and left behind. The purpose of this warning is to caution the servant against acting contrary to Allah and His Messenger, for he will come to know of it and be called to account for it.
“O man!” It has been said that “man” here refers to the disbeliever, and it has also been said that it refers to man as such, for man by nature is deeply unjust and profoundly ignorant—deeply unjust and utterly ungrateful: “Indeed, man is truly most unjust and utterly ungrateful” [Ibrahim: 34].
Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says, “O man!” addressing man as such, irrespective of his religion. “What has deceived you concerning your Generous Lord?” That is: What has deceived you concerning Allah, so that you deny the Resurrection and disobey His commands and prohibitions?
