weariness. Thus, they will enjoy the most perfect bliss, always and forever—for all eternity. “Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him.” The most perfect bliss is that Allah Most High is pleased with them: His pleasure descends upon them, after which He will never be angry with them. Moreover, they will see Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—with their own eyes, just as they see the moon on the night when it is full. They will have no doubt or uncertainty about it, nor will they need to crowd together to see Him; that is, they will not need to draw together so that one may point Him out to another. Rather, each person will see Him from where he is, according to what Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—wills.
Then He—Mighty and Majestic is He—said, “That is for whoever fears his Lord.” That is, this reward is for whoever has reverential fear of Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He. Reverential fear is fear of Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—accompanied by awe and veneration, and it arises only from one who possesses knowledge of Allah. Allah Most High says, “Only those of His servants who possess knowledge truly fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Almighty, All-Forgiving” [Fātir: 28]—that is, those who know His greatness and the perfection of His sovereignty. Reverential fear is therefore more specific than fear. The distinction between them is made clear by an example: if you fear someone without knowing whether or not he has power over you, that is fear; but if you fear someone whom you know has power over you, that is reverential fear. With this, this magnificent surah is complete, as is what we were able to say concerning its interpretation. We ask Allah to make us among those who recite the Book of Allah as it ought to be recited. He is indeed capable of all things.
