Tafsir al-Uthaymin Juz AmmaIbn al-'Uthaymin

interrupted”—meaning neither cut off nor held over them as a favor. The word mamnūn (interrupted) can denote both being cut off and having a favor held over someone. Thus, they shall have a reward that will never cease, nor will it be held over them as a favor. That is, once they receive this reward in full, it will not be held over them with such words as, “We gave you this, and We did this and that for you.” Allah has indeed favored them by granting them faith, righteous deeds, and reward—all of these are favors from Allah—but He will not hold them over them. In other words, they will not be hurt by reminders of favor, as commonly happens in worldly affairs. If someone treats you well, he may then hurt you by holding his favor over you, saying at every opportunity, “I did this for you; I gave you that,” and so forth.

Allah, Exalted is He, then says: “What, then, could cause you to deny the religion after this?” Allah Most High shifts from speaking of man in the third person to confronting him with direct address. He says: “What, then, could cause you to deny the religion after this?” That is: O man, after this explanation, what could cause you to deny “the religion”—meaning the religion Allah has enjoined? Thus, whenever a person reflects upon himself, his origin, his creation, and how Allah chose him and gave him an excellent form and innate disposition, his faith in Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and his affirmation of His Book and of what His messengers conveyed increase.

He then says: “Is Allah not the wisest of judges?” This interrogative serves as an affirmation: Allah, Mighty and Majestic, affirms that He is the wisest of judges. Here, “wisest” is a superlative derived from both wisdom and judgment. The supreme and greatest judgment, which nothing can oppose, is Allah’s judgment; and the highest, consummate wisdom is Allah’s wisdom. He—Glorified and Exalted is He—is therefore the wisest of judges in both His decree and His legislation. Judgment belongs to Him, and every affair returns to Him. We ask Allah Most High to grant us knowledge of His Book and the sunnah of His Messenger—may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace. He is indeed capable of all things.
