for you than this life.﴾ This sentence is reinforced by the lām—the lām of commencement. The Hereafter is the Day on which people will be resurrected and proceed to their final abode, either Paradise or the Fire. Thus, Allah says to His Prophet—may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace: ﴿And the Hereafter is certainly better for you than this life.﴾ That is because the Hereafter contains what no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has ever conceived. For this reason, when Allah gave His Prophet—may Allah bless him and his family and grant them peace—the choice, during his illness, between continuing to live in this world and what is with Allah, he chose what is with Allah. ﴿And your Lord will surely give you until you are pleased.﴾ The lām in ﴿And surely﴾ is likewise emphatic and introduces an implicit oath. The word “will” indicates that something will certainly take place, though only after a period of time. ﴿Your Lord will give you﴾ means that He will give you what pleases you, and you will therefore be pleased. Allah has indeed given him—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—what pleases him.
