favor for which he must be repaid,﴾ meaning that he does not give wealth in return for a favor previously received from someone. No one has done him a favor that he must repay. Rather, he gives only in pursuit of Allah’s Countenance. Thus, He says, ﴿But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High.﴾ He spends solely in pursuit of Allah’s Countenance—that is, seeking admission to Allah’s abode of honor, where Allah—Glorious and Exalted—is seen.
﴿And he will surely be pleased,﴾ meaning that Allah—Glorious and Exalted—will please him with the abundant reward He grants him. Allah has explained this in His words: ﴿The example of those who spend their wealth in the cause of Allah is that of a grain that sprouts seven ears, with a hundred grains in each ear. Allah multiplies the reward for whomever He wills. Allah is All-Bountiful, All-Knowing.﴾ [al-Baqarah: 261].
We ask Allah to make us among these righteous, pure, and noble people. He is indeed capable of all things.
