Manāsik al-ḤajjIbn Taimiya

As for making tawaf around it, or around the Rock, or around the Prophet’s Chamber—peace and blessings be upon him—or around anything (1) other than the Ancient House, such an act is among the gravest of the forbidden innovations (2).

(1) The phrase “aw ma” (“or what”) appears in manuscript B as “wa ma” (“and what”). (2) Al-Ikhtiyarat by al-Baʿli, p. 176: “It is unanimously forbidden to perform tawaf around anything other than the Ancient House; likewise, scholarly consensus holds that one must neither kiss nor touch such a structure, for this amounts to shirk (associating partners with Allah), and Allah does not forgive shirk, even when it is minor.”
