while for others, performing the pilgrimage on foot is superior (1).
The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—did not designate any particular supplication or remembrance for the standing at ʿArafah; rather, each person may invoke Allah with whatever sound supplications he wishes. In the same way, he may proclaim the takbīr, utter the tahlīl, and remember Allah Most High until the sun sets.
As for bathing for ʿArafah (2), this has been reported (3) in a ḥadīth from (4) the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—(5) and likewise from Ibn ʿUmar and others (6). Nothing else concerning the pilgrimage has been transmitted from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—or from his Companions except three ritual baths:
• the bath for entering the state of iḥrām,
• the bath upon entering Mecca,
• and the bath on the Day of ʿArafah.
