Manāsik al-ḤajjIbn Taimiya

If a pilgrim puts on prohibited clothing and then repeats the act several times (1) before offering the required expiation, a single expiation suffices according to the sounder of the two scholarly opinions. (2)

(1) In manuscripts A and B the text reads: “marat” (several times). (2) This is the view adopted by the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali schools. Imam Ahmad, however, requires a separate expiation for each occurrence; see: al-Tajrid by al-Quduri 4/1792; al-Tabsira by al-Khami 3/1292; al-Majmu‘ 7/378; al-Insaf 3/526.
