the muhrim from wearing the shirt, the burnous (1), the trousers, and the leather socks—and likewise the turban (2). He also forbade them to cover the head of a muhrim after his death (3), and instructed anyone who had entered iḥrām (4) in a jubba (5) to remove it (6). (1) Taj al-Arus, 15/448: al-burnus (with u-vowel) is a long hood; people wore it in the early Islamic period, says al-Jawhari. Al-Azhari and later scholars broaden the term to any garment whose hood is attached to the body—whether a daraa, a jubbah, or a rain-cloak. The word is traced to bars (cotton) with an added nun, although some deem it non-Arabic.

(3) Reference to the hadith of Ibn Abbas: while a man was standing with the Messenger of Allah at Arafat, his mount threw him and broke his neck. The Prophet said: “Wash him with water and sidr, shroud him in two garments, apply no perfume, and do not cover his head, for Allah will raise him on the Day of Resurrection uttering the talbiyah.” Reported by Bukhari 1839 and Muslim 1206; wording follows Muslim.
