• “Then it will be blown a second time”—the blast of resurrection.
• “And suddenly they will be standing,” rising from their graves in perfect form, looking ahead to what awaits them in that next life where every deed, good or bad, will be requited.
• As for the obedient believers, they will rise composed and full of hope in their Lord’s bounty and mercy, rejoicing in His reward, pardon, and forgiveness. They will be gathered to the standing place of the Resurrection as honored delegations.
• The criminals, however, will rise terrified, fearful, and remorseful, calling for ruin and destruction, saying, “Alas for us! Who has raised us from our resting place?” ⦗Yā-Sīn: 52⦘; and they will be driven to Hell, parched and weary.
• Then commotions and terrors will multiply, and children will grow grey-haired from the horror of that Day: “On the Day you behold it, every nursing mother will forget the child she is nursing, every pregnant woman will miscarry, and you will see people appearing drunk while they are not drunk; but the punishment of Allah is severe.” ⦗Al-Ḥajj: 2⦘. “On the Day when a man will flee from his brother, his mother and his father, his wife and his sons; every person that Day will have enough concern of his own. Faces that Day will be radiant, laughing and rejoicing, while other faces that Day will be covered with dust and enveloped in darkness—those are the unbelievers, the wicked.” ⦗ʿAbasa: 34-42⦘. “And on the Day when the sky is split open with clouds and the angels are sent down in ranks, true sovereignty that Day belongs to the Most Merciful, and it will be a difficult Day for the disbelievers.” ⦗Al-Furqān: 25-26⦘. The sun and moon will be wrapped up, the stars scattered, and all these familiar lights will fade. The earth will then shine with the light of its Lord, and Allah will descend to settle judgment among His servants and call them to account for their deeds.
• As for the believers, their reckoning will be easy: He will remind them of their sins, then forgive them and conceal them from all creation, multiply their good deeds, and grant them out of His bounty and grace far beyond what their actions deserve. Their records will be placed in their right hands in honor and esteem; their faces will be radiant white, and their scales heavy with good deeds.
