13 – “The Horn will be blown, and everyone in the heavens and on the earth will fall unconscious, except those whom Allah wills; then it will be blown again, and suddenly they will be standing, looking on.” ⦗68⦘ [Az-Zumar: 68]—and so on to the end of the noble surah.
Among the most important fundamentals of faith is belief in the Last Day—that is, belief in everything Allah and His Messenger have told us will occur after death:
• the trial of the grave, its bliss, and its punishment;
• the conditions of the Day of Resurrection (1) and what will take place there;
• and the attributes of Paradise and Hell, together with the attributes of their respective inhabitants.
Belief in the Last Day therefore means affirming all of this, both in general and in detail.
As for the circumstances of the grave—its trial, its punishment, its bliss, and their particulars—authentic and sound hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on this subject have reached the level of tawātur, as is well known, and the Quran alludes to it in several verses.
With regard to what comes after that: when the Almighty, All-Powerful King wills to resurrect His servants, gather them, and recompense them, “the Horn will be blown.” The Horn is a mighty trumpet whose true enormity is known only to the One who created it, as stated in the famous hadith of the Horn; or (2) the Horn will be blown in a manner whose reality only Allah knows. This is the blast of shock and terror: at it the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth will be thrown into alarm and will fall lifeless, except those of His creation whom Allah wills to spare.
