10 – “Allah has indeed bestowed a tremendous favor upon the believers when He raised up among them a messenger from their own selves who recites to them His revelations, purifies them, and teaches them the Book and wisdom, although before that they were in manifest error.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān 164⦘

This favor with which Allah has graced His believing servants is the greatest of all favors—indeed, it is their fountainhead. It is His kindness in sending them this noble Messenger through whom Allah combined every virtue found in the earlier messengers.

Part of his magnificent perfection are the effects that Allah made the result of his mission: by them the believers attain completeness in knowledge and practice, in character and manners, and through them every evil and harm is removed. Allah sent him from among their own people and their noblest clan; they knew his lineage— the most honored of lineages—together with his truthfulness, trustworthiness, and the excellence in which he outstripped all who came before and after him. He was their sincere well-wisher, full of compassion, earnestly concerned for their guidance.

• “yatlu ʿalayhim āyātihī” (he recites His verses to them): he teaches them the very words and explains to them their meanings.
• “wa yuzakkīhim” (and he purifies them): he cleanses them from polytheism, sins, vices, and every blameworthy trait; and “wa yuzakkīhim” also means that he causes them to grow by urging them toward noble character, for tazkiyah encompasses both removal of faults and cultivation of virtues.
• “wa yuʿallimuhumu al-kitāba” (and he teaches them the Book), that is, the Quran; “wa al-ḥikmata” (and wisdom), namely the sunnah.

Through the Book and the sunnah Allah perfected the religion for the Messenger and for his community. By means of them knowledge of the fundamentals and subsidiary rulings of the faith was gained; through them every beneficial science came about, together with the good that follows and the elimination of evils. By means of them certain knowledge of all useful realities is secured, and through them come guidance and the rectification of humankind.

فصل ١٠ - ﴿لَقَدْ مَنَّ اللَّهُ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِذْ بَعَثَ فِيهِمْ رَسُولًا مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ وَالْحِكْمَةَ وَإِنْ كَانُوا مِنْ قَبْلُ لَفِي ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ (١٦٤)﴾ [آل عمران: ١٦٤]. * هذهِ المنةُ التي امتنَّ اللهُ بها على عبادهِ المؤمنينَ أكبرُ المننِ، بلْ هيَ أصلُها، وهيَ الامتنانُ عليهم بهذا الرسولِ الكريمِ الذي جمعَ اللهُ بهِ جميعَ المحاسنِ الموجودةِ في الرسلِ. ومن كمالهِ العظيمِ: هذهِ الآثارُ التي جعلَها اللهُ نتيجةَ رسالتهِ، التي بها كمالُ المؤمنينَ علمًا وعملًا، وأخلاقًا وآدابًا، وبها زالَ عنهم كلُّ شرٍّ وضررٍ، فبعثهُ اللهُ من أنفُسِهم وأنفَسِهم وقبيلتِهم، يعرفونَ نسبَهُ أشرفَ الأنسابِ، وصدقَهُ وأمانتَهُ وكمالَهُ الذي فاقَ بهِ الأولينَ والآخرينَ، ناصحًا لهم مشفقًا، حريصًا على هدايتِهم. * ﴿يَتْلُو عَلَيْهِمْ آيَاتِهِ﴾ فيعلمُهم ألفاظَها، ويشرحُ لهم معانيَها. * ﴿وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ﴾ أي: يطهرُهم من الشركِ والمعاصِي والرذائلِ وسائرِ الخصالِ الذميمةِ، ﴿وَيُزَكِّيهِمْ﴾ أيضًا أي: ينمِّيهم، فيحثُّهم على الأخلاقِ الجميلةِ؛ فإنَّ التزكيةَ تتضمنُ هذينِ الأمرينِ: التطهيرَ من المساوئِ، والتنميةَ بالمحاسنِ. * ﴿وَيُعَلِّمُهُمُ الْكِتَابَ﴾ وهو القرآنُ، ﴿وَالْحِكْمَةَ﴾ وهي السنةُ. فالكتابُ والسنةُ بهما أكملَ اللهُ للرسولِ وأمتهِ الدينَ، وبهما حصلَ العلمُ بأصولِ الدينِ وفروعهِ، وبهما حصلَتْ جميعُ العلومِ النافعةِ، وما يترتبُ عليها مِنْ الخيراتِ وزوالِ الشرورِ، وبهما حصلَ العلمُ اليقينيُّ بجميعِ الحقائقِ النافعةِ، وبهما الهدايةُ والصلاحُ للبشرِ.
