is better; then behold—the one between whom and you there was enmity will become like a devoted ally.” ⦗Fussilat: 34⦘ And His saying, “It was by a mercy from Allah that you were gentle with them; had you been harsh and hard-hearted, they would have dispersed from around you.” ⦗Āl ʿImrān: 159⦘ By this the servant finds peace, and many of his affairs become easy for him.
• Allah has made spending in its rightful place a cause of immediate replenishment and deferred reward. The proof is His saying, “Whatever you spend of anything, He will replace it; and He is the best of providers.” ⦗Sabaʾ: 39⦘
• Allah has opened for His provision numerous gates and means. If one of those gates is closed to the servant, he should not grieve, for Allah will open another—perhaps stronger and better, perhaps equal to it, or perhaps lesser. The evidence is His saying, “But if they separate, Allah will enrich each of them out of His abundant bounty.” ⦗al-Nisāʾ: 130⦘, and His saying, “O you who believe, the polytheists are indeed impure; so let them not approach the Sacred Mosque after this year of theirs. If you fear poverty, Allah will enrich you out of His grace.” ⦗al-Tawbah: 28⦘.
• Allah has made vigilance and keeping away from destructive, ruinous sins—and caution regarding their avenues and preludes—a smooth and easy path to abandoning them. The proof is His saying, “These are the limits of Allah” ⦗al-Baqarah: 187⦘, meaning His prohibitions, “so do not approach them” ⦗al-Baqarah: 187⦘, that is, do not commit them nor circle around them; for whoever grazes around the protected pasture is likely to fall into it.
When the verse reads, “These are the limits of Allah, so do not approach them” ⦗al-Baqarah: 187⦘, the “limits” refer to what is forbidden. But when He says, “These are the limits of Allah, so do not overstep them” ⦗al-Baqarah: 229⦘, the limits are those that Allah has set for what is permissible. The servant must not transgress them, for if he exceeds what is permissible he will fall into what is forbidden. Understand well the difference between the two statements.
• Allah has made the single, powerful, and truly fruitful method for calling to His path exactly what is contained in this verse: “Call to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good preaching, and argue with them in the manner that is best.” ⦗al-Naḥl: 125⦘:
