• Allah has made jihad a cause for victory, for attaining the desired objectives vis-à-vis the enemy, and for protection against their harm. The proof is His saying, “Fight them; Allah will punish them through your hands, disgrace them, and grant you victory over them” ⦗al-Tawbah: 14⦘, and His saying, “So fight in the path of Allah—you are responsible only for yourself—and urge on the believers; perhaps Allah will restrain the might of those who disbelieve” ⦗al-Nisa’: 84⦘.
• Allah has appointed specific causes that lead to His love—the loftiest station a servant can attain—the foremost and greatest of which is to follow His Messenger Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, in word, deed, and every state. He, the Exalted, said, “Say, ‘If you truly love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you’” ⦗Al ʿImran: 31⦘. Among the other causes are what He Himself has mentioned: “Allah loves the patient” ⦗Al ʿImran: 146⦘; “He loves those who excel in goodness” ⦗al-Baqarah: 195⦘; “He loves those who are mindful of Him” ⦗Al ʿImran: 76⦘; and “He loves those who fight in His cause in ranks as though they were a solid wall” ⦗al-Saff: 4⦘.
• Allah has made reflecting upon the favors and bounty He has already granted, while averting one’s gaze from what has not been granted, a cause for contentment. The evidence is His saying, “O Moses, I have chosen you above the people with My messages and with My speech; so take what I have given you and be among the grateful” ⦗al-Aʿraf: 144⦘.
• Allah has made the establishment of justice in all matters a cause for the rectification of conditions, whereas its opposite is a cause for corruption and discord. The proof is His saying, “And He raised the heaven and set up the balance, so that you may not transgress in the balance. Uphold the weight with equity and do not fall short in the balance” ⦗al-Rahman: 7–9⦘.
• Allah has made a servant’s complete sincerity toward his Lord a means by which He wards off sins, their causes, and every kind of temptation. The evidence is His saying, “Thus did We avert from him evil and indecency; indeed, he was one of Our devoted servants” ⦗Yusuf: 24⦘.
