• Allah has made the key to knowledge consist of thoughtful questioning, attentive listening, diligent study, piety, and sincere intent. The proof is His saying, “So ask the people of remembrance if you do not know” ⦗al-Nahl: 43⦘; His saying, “O you who believe, do not inquire about matters which, if disclosed to you, would distress you; yet if you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made clear to you” ⦗al-Ma’idah: 101⦘; His saying, “O you who believe, if you are mindful of Allah, He will grant you a criterion” ⦗al-Anfal: 29⦘—that is, a light and knowledge by which you distinguish every reality; His saying, “By it Allah guides those who seek His pleasure to the paths of peace” ⦗al-Ma’idah: 16⦘; and His saying, “Those who strive for Us—We shall surely guide them to Our paths” ⦗al-‘Ankabut: 69⦘.
• Allah has made readiness against the enemy with every available form of strength, and taking due precautions, a means to victory and protection from their harm. The evidence is His saying, “O you who believe, take your precautions” ⦗al-Nisa’: 71⦘, and His saying, “And prepare against them whatever force you can muster” ⦗al-Anfal: 60⦘.
• Allah has decreed that ease follows hardship and that relief comes at the height of distress. The proof is His saying, “Indeed, with hardship comes ease” ⦗al-Sharh: 6⦘; His saying, “Allah will bring about, after hardship, ease” ⦗al-Talaq: 7⦘; and, “Who is it that answers the desperate one when he calls upon Him?” ⦗al-Naml: 62⦘.
• Allah has made gratitude a cause for further increase—whether of the same favor or of others—whereas ingratitude for blessings is a cause for their removal. The evidence is His saying, “If you give thanks, I will surely grant you more; but if you are ungrateful, My punishment is indeed severe” ⦗Ibrahim: 7⦘.
• Allah has made patience and mindfulness of Him the means to praiseworthy outcomes and lofty stations. The proof is His saying, “The good end is for the God-fearing” ⦗al-A‘raf: 128⦘, and His saying, “Whoever is mindful of Allah and patient—surely Allah does not allow the reward of those who excel to be lost” ⦗Yusuf: 90⦘.
