Then Allah perfected His favor upon Abraham and showed mercy to his wife Sarah, despite her old age, barrenness, and loss of hope, by giving them the glad tidings of the noble son Isaac, and, after Isaac, of Jacob.
When Allah sent Lot to his people and they defied him, and their punishment became certain—and Lot, peace be upon him, was a disciple of Abraham and deeply indebted to him—the angels dispatched to destroy Lot’s people stopped by Abraham, appearing in human form.
When they entered his home and greeted him with peace, he returned their greeting and hurried to honor them. Allah had granted him ample provision and a generous nature, and his house was ever open to guests. Slipping away to his family, quickly and without the visitors noticing, he brought a fat roasted calf—grilled on hot stones—placed it before them, and said, “Will you not eat?” ⦗Al-Dhariyat 27⦘.
“But when he saw that their hands did not reach toward it, he felt uneasy about them and conceived a fear of them” ⦗Hud 70⦘, thinking they might be bandits. They said, “Do not be afraid; we have been sent to the people of Lot.” ⦗Hud 70⦘.
Sarah was standing there serving them when “they gave him good news of a learned boy.” ⦗Al-Dhariyat 28⦘. She screamed, struck her face in amazement yet delight, torn between hesitation and wonder, and said, “Shall I give birth while I am an old woman—and I was barren before—and this husband of mine is an old man? This is truly a strange thing!” ⦗Hud 72⦘. They replied, “Are you astonished at Allah’s command? The mercy of Allah and His blessings rest upon you, people of the house. Surely He is Praiseworthy, Glorious.” ⦗Hud 73⦘.
Thus the angels brought them the good news of Isaac—that he would live, and that Jacob would be born to him and both parents would live to see him. Therefore Abraham praised Allah for the completion of His favor and said, “Praise be to Allah, who has granted me, in old age, Ishmael and Isaac. Indeed, my Lord is the Hearer of prayer.” ⦗Ibrahim 39⦘.
