Sections on What God has narrated to us in His Book of the stories of the Prophets and their peoples
God has related to us in His Book many noble accounts of His prophets, and He has described them as “the best of stories.” Such praise from the Almighty indicates that these accounts are the truest, the most eloquent, and the most beneficial to His servants.
Among the most important benefits of these stories are the following:
• Through them faith in the prophets, peace be upon them, is completed and perfected. Although we already believe in all the prophets in a general, summary way, the detailed faith derived from their stories—together with what God has attributed to them of absolute truthfulness, the loftiest qualities, and their grace, generosity, and kindness toward all humanity, which even extends to every animal through the guidance (1) they provided to those charged with caring for them—this detailed faith in the prophets elevates a servant to full faith and is one of the sources by which faith increases.
• Their stories confirm faith in God and His oneness (tawḥīd), the dedication of all deeds to Him alone, belief in the Last Day, and they demonstrate the excellence and obligation of tawḥīd and the ugliness of shirk, which is the cause of ruin in this world and the hereafter.
• Their stories also serve as a lesson for the believers, who emulate the prophets in every station of the religion:
– in the station of tawḥīd and fulfilling servitude to God.
