Ṣuwar min Ḥayāt al-ṢaḥābiyyātAbd al-Rahman Ra'fat al-Basha

On the day of Uhud, Umm ʿUmārah drilled herself in the art of combat until she mastered it … and once she had tasted the sweetness of striving in Allah’s cause, she could no longer keep away from it.

It was decreed that she would accompany the Messenger ﷺ in most of his campaigns … She was with him at al-Hudaybiyah, at Khaybar … at the compensatory ʿUmrah (1), at Hunayn … and at the Pledge of Ridwan …

Yet all of that pales beside what she accomplished on the day of al-Yamamah during the caliphate of Abu Bakr al-Ṣiddīq—may Allah be pleased with him and with her.

The story of Umm ʿUmārah and the day of al-Yamamah, in fact, begins in the lifetime of the Messenger ﷺ.

(1) Umrah al-Qadiya or Umrah al-Qada: this refers to the Umrah undertaken by the Prophet ﷺ and his companions after the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
