and your mother’s stand today is worthier than the stand of so-and-so and so-and-so… May Allah have mercy on you, O household.’

At that my mother turned to him and said, ‘Pray to Allah that we may accompany you in Paradise, O Messenger of Allah.’

He replied, ‘O Allah, make them my companions in Paradise.’

My mother said, ‘After that, I care not what may befall me in this world.’

Thus Umm ʿUmārah returned from Uhud carrying her deep wound—and carrying as well the supplication the greatest Messenger ﷺ had bestowed upon her.

As for the Prophet ﷺ, he came back from Uhud saying, ‘Throughout the Day of Uhud I never turned to the right or to the left without seeing Umm ʿUmārah fighting in my defense.’
