The noble Messenger ﷺ could not bear to be separated from al-Zahrāʾ, so he resolved to bring her to live beside him. Houses belonging to Ḥārithah ibn al-Nuʿmān stood next to the Prophet’s quarters, whereupon Ḥārithah came to Allah’s Messenger and said:
“Word has reached me that you wish to bring Fāṭimah to your side. These houses of mine are the nearest dwellings of Banū al-Najjār to you, and I—and all I possess—belong to Allah and His Messenger. By Allah, O Messenger of Allah, the property you take from me is dearer to me than what you leave with me.”
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, “You have spoken the truth. May Allah bless you.”
He then moved Fāṭimah to live next to him, lodging her in one of Ḥārithah’s houses—may Allah be pleased with him.
