and when the death of her brother befell her, she bore the loss with exemplary patience… Hardships put her to the test, and each time they revealed a woman of firm resolve, sound judgment, and fearless courage… Moreover, history has inscribed on its brightest pages that Ṣafiyyah bint ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib was the first woman to slay a polytheist in Islam (1).
