Ṣuwar min Ḥayāt al-ṢaḥābiyyātAbd al-Rahman Ra'fat al-Basha

while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and those with him were stationed at the very front lines (1) facing the enemy. If that enemy of Allah succeeded in conveying to his people the reality of our situation, the Jews would seize the women, enslave the children, and a calamity (2) would descend upon the Muslims.

At that point she quickly wrapped her head-cover over her hair, tightened her garments around her waist, hoisted a pole onto her shoulder (3), and went down to the fortress gate. She opened it with deliberate care and skill, keeping a sharp, watchful eye on that enemy of Allah. Once she was certain he had moved into a spot that placed him squarely within her reach, she launched a firm, resolute assault, striking him on the head with the pole and knocking him to the ground

(1) In the enemy’s neck: referring to the enemy’s faces and the direction he faces. (2) Al-tama: the great calamity; the Resurrection is called al-tama because it overwhelms everything, covering all and leaving nothing untouched. (3) On its shoulder: on its scapula.
