Ṣuwar min Ḥayāt al-ṢaḥābiyyātAbd al-Rahman Ra'fat al-Basha

At that point the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said to him, “Let her pass, Zubayr.”
So he let her go.

When the battle had finally come to an end, Safiyyah went to her brother Hamzah and found that his abdomen had been ripped open (1), his liver torn out, his nose cut off (2), his ears severed (3), and his face disfigured. She sought forgiveness for him and kept saying:
“This is for the sake of Allah… I accept the decree of Allah. By Allah, I will endure with patience and seek my reward with Him (4), if Allah wills.”

Such was the stance of Safiyyah bint ʿAbd al-Muttalib on the Day of Uhud

(1) Baqara batnuh: his belly was split. (2) Jad‘ anafuh: his nose was severed. (3) Sallamat adhanah: his ears were severed. (4) La-ahtasibbann: I did so in order to impute that affliction to Allah and to seek reward from Him.
