Every path to distinction converged upon Safiyyah bint ʿAbd al-Muttalib:
Her father was ʿAbd al-Muttalib ibn Hāshim, the Prophet’s grandfather, the acknowledged and obeyed chief of Quraysh.
Her mother was Hālah bint Wahb, the sister of Āminah bint Wahb, the Prophet’s mother.
Her first husband was al-Hārith ibn Ḥarb, brother of Abū Sufyān ibn Ḥarb, the leader of Banū Umayyah, who died while married to her.
Her second husband was al-ʿAwwām ibn Khuwaylid, brother of Khadījah bint Khuwaylid—the foremost woman of the Arabs in the Age of Ignorance and the first of the Mothers of the Believers in Islam.
Her son is al-Zubayr ibn al-ʿAwwām, the disciple of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.
With lineage such as this, what honor could souls still aspire to, save the honor of faith itself?!
