“…O Allah, with You I seek reward for this calamity of mine… O Allah, replace it for me with something better than it—and Allah will indeed grant it.”
Abu Salama remained on his sickbed for several days. One morning the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to visit him; scarcely had the Prophet finished the visit and crossed his doorway when Abu Salama breathed his last.
The Prophet ﷺ closed his companion’s eyes with his blessed hands, then lifted his gaze toward the heaven and supplicated:
“O Allah, forgive Abu Salama and raise his rank among those who are near to You…
Be the Guardian over his posterity (1) among those who come after.
Forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds…
Make his grave spacious for him and fill it with light.”
(1) Succeed him in his aftermath: serve as a substitute for his children and family.
