stains; replace his home with a home better than his own, and a spouse better than his spouse; admit him into Paradise; shield him from the torment of the grave and the torment of the Fire; grant him spaciousness in his grave and fill it with light.”
The pronouns are feminized when the deceased is a woman.
If the deceased is a child, instead of seeking forgiveness one says:
“O Allah, make him a treasure for his parents, a forerunner (1), a reward and an intercessor whose plea is answered. O Allah, make him weigh heavily on their scales, magnify through him their rewards, join him to the righteous predecessors of the believers, place him under the care of Abraham, and, by Your mercy, protect him from the punishment of the Blazing Fire.”
After the fourth takbir the imam pauses briefly, then ends with a single salām to his right, raising his hands with every takbir.
What is obligatory is: standing, the takbirs, al-Fatiha, blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—supplication for the deceased, and the salām.
Whoever misses any of the takbirs should make them up in the same manner, preferably. If he misses the funeral prayer altogether, he may pray over the grave for up to a month; the same applies to one who is absent from the town, provided he intends it. There is no objection to performing the funeral prayer in the mosque.

On Carrying the Deceased and Burying Him
The Sunnah is to carry the bier in four shifts (2); carrying it between the two side-poles is permissible. It is recommended to walk quickly with the bier, with a walker in front of it and a rider behind it.
