Preface

All praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds, the Sovereign, the Manifest Truth. Blessings and peace be upon the truthful, trustworthy Messenger—sent as a mercy to all creation—Muhammad ibn ʿAbd Allah, and upon his pure family and all his Companions.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“When a human being dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge from which people benefit, or a righteous child who prays for him.”
Narrated by Muslim.

One of the principal aims of our family foundation, the Jiluwi bin Dawy al-ʿUtaybi Charitable Foundation, is to sponsor and disseminate scholarly and daʿwah projects both inside Kuwait and abroad. In this spirit, we have undertaken the printing of this valuable book, ʿUmdat al-Ṭālib on jurisprudence, authored by the eminent Ḥanbalī scholar Imām Mansūr al-Bahūtī, critically edited by the esteemed Shaykh Muṭlaq ibn Jāsir al-Jāsir, and introduced by the respected Shaykh Muhammad Āl Ismāʿīl and Shaykh ʿAdnān al-Nihām—may Allah preserve them all and benefit the Muslims through their efforts and knowledge.

We ask Allah Almighty to grant that students of knowledge and all Muslims benefit from this book, and to bless this edition and every other scholarly and daʿwah initiative of the Foundation.

Allah is the One sought for help in every good endeavor, and all praise belongs to Allah, Lord of the worlds.
