3 – A manuscript kept in the Municipal Library of Alexandria under catalogue number (3589). A photographic copy is held in the Library of the Islamic University in Medina under number (7215/2). It consists of 65 folios and carries several ownership marks, the earliest of which is dated 1132 AH. The manuscript contains many marginal notes; upon examination, however, it became clear that most of them were taken from “Hidāyat al-Rāghib,” so I have recorded only a few. The scribe’s name and the date of copying are not mentioned. In this edition I designate this manuscript by the siglum (B).

4 – A manuscript formerly belonging to the library of Shaykh Muḥammad b. Ḥamad al-ʿAssāfī—may Allah have mercy on him—which has since passed to the Central Library of Imām Muḥammad ibn Saʿūd Islamic University in Riyadh, where it is catalogued under number (1/8956). It comprises 31 folios, bears several ownership statements, and was completed in 1093 AH. There are omissions in a number of places, and it is not free of errors. I refer to it with the siglum (C).

5 – A manuscript written in the hand of Shaykh Muḥammad b. Ḥamad al-ʿAssāfī, completed in 1335 AH. It consists of 75 folios and likewise comes from the ʿAssāfī Library, now preserved in the Central Library of Imām University under number (9017). As it is an exact copy of manuscript (C) above, I did not rely on it in the present critical edition.
