Umdat at-TalibAl-Buhuti

If he performs the stoning on the third day, it is accepted as having been carried out on time; he should mentally preserve the prescribed order. Should he postpone it beyond that, or neglect to spend the night in Mina, a compensatory sacrifice becomes obligatory.

Whoever hastens and leaves after two days must depart before sunset; the stoning of the third day then falls away, and, as a recommended act, he buries the remaining pebbles.

When he intends to leave Mecca, he bids the House farewell with a final circumambulation. This farewell ṭawāf is waived for a menstruating woman. If, after performing it, he stays on in Mecca or engages in trade, he should repeat the ṭawāf. Anyone who omits it should return and perform it, provided this does not entail undue hardship; otherwise a compensatory sacrifice is due. (1)

He then stands at the Multazam—the space between the Black Stone corner and the door of the Kaʿbah—pressing his whole body against it, and supplicates:

“O Allah, this is Your House, and I am Your servant, the son of Your servant, the son of Your bondmaid. You conveyed me on that which You subjected of Your creation and carried me through Your lands until, by Your favor, You brought me to Your House and enabled me to fulfill my rites. If You are pleased with me, then increase Your pleasure with me; but if not, then grant it to me now, before my dwelling is far from Your House. This is the moment of my departure, should You permit me, with no intention of exchanging You or Your House for another, and with no aversion to You or to Your House. O Allah, therefore escort me with well-being in my body, health in my frame, and protection in my religion. Make my return praiseworthy, grant me obedience to You for as long as You keep me alive, and combine for me the good of this world and the Hereafter. Surely You have power over all things.” (2)

He may add whatever supplications he wishes, sends blessings upon the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace— and, as he departs, says:

“O Allah, do not make this my last visit.” (3)

A menstruating woman makes this supplication at the door of the mosque. (4)

(1) In manuscript A: “he does it.” (2) The phrase “if you permit me” is not found in manuscript A. (3) Imam al-Shafii recommended this supplication in al-Umm, 3:575; al-Bayhaqi transmits it from him (5:165) and judges it “hasan” (sound). (4) In manuscript B: “the menstruating woman.”
