Next he proceeds to Mecca and performs the tawāf of ifādah with its specific intention. Its earliest time begins at midnight on the Night of Sacrifice, while the sunnah is to perform it during that day, though delaying it is permissible. Afterward the pilgrim performing tamattuʿ makes the saʿy between Ṣafā and Marwah, as does anyone who did not perform the saʿy together with the arrival tawāf; once this is completed, everything becomes lawful for him. He drinks from the water of Zamzam whatever he wishes, drinking to his fill, and says:
“In the name of Allah. O Allah, make it for us a source of beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, refreshment and satiation (1), a cure for every illness. Wash my heart with it and fill it with awe of You.”

He then returns and spends three nights at Minā, stoning the jamarāt on the Days of Tashrīq. He begins with the first jamrah, the one adjoining Masjid al-Khayf, throwing seven pebbles at it while keeping it on his left; he then steps back a little and makes a lengthy supplication. Next he approaches the middle jamrah, keeps it on his right, throws seven pebbles at it, then steps back a little (2) and supplicates. Finally he comes to Jamrat al-ʿAqabah, keeps it on his right, stands in the valley, and does not pause there. The same procedure is followed on the second and third days after the sun has passed its zenith, while facing the qiblah.
