Section (1)
Then he touches the Stone, leaves for the saʿy through the Ṣafā Gate, and climbs Ṣafā until he can see the House. He proclaims “Allāhu akbar” three times and repeats the following three times:
“Praise be to Allah for having guided us. There is no god but Allah alone, without partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise; He gives life and causes death, and He is the Ever-Living who never dies. All good is in His hand (2) and He has power over everything. There is no god but Allah alone; He fulfilled His promise, helped His servant, and single-handedly routed the confederates.”
He then supplicates with whatever he wishes.
Next he descends, walks to within about six cubits of the first marker, then runs vigorously to the second marker. He continues walking, ascends Marwah, and recites there what he said on Ṣafā. He then descends, walking in the walking area and running in the running area back to Ṣafā. He does this seven times; the outward journey counts as one lap and the return as another. During the saʿy he says (3):
“Lord, forgive and have mercy; pardon what You know. You are the Mighty, the Most Generous.” (4)
If he begins at Marwah (5) the first lap is invalid.
Maintaining ritual purity and covering the body are recommended during the saʿy, while intention, uninterrupted succession, and that it be performed after a ritual ṭawāf are required for its validity.
