It is likewise forbidden to kill any edible land game, including a hybrid that stems from it and another animal (1), or to hunt or injure it. Whoever destroys such an animal—whether by his own hand or by assisting someone else—must pay the prescribed compensation. Killing lice and their eggs (2) involves no liability. No penalty applies to domestic animals such as sheep or chickens, to sea game, to creatures whose flesh is already unlawful, or to a predatory beast that attacks.
It is also forbidden (3) to conclude a marriage contract while in ihram; such a contract is invalid, no fidyah is incurred, yet taking one’s wife back after a revocable divorce remains valid.
Intercourse is likewise prohibited. If it occurs before the first release from ihram, it invalidates the pilgrimage of both spouses; if it takes place after that release, it does not. They must nevertheless finish the defective pilgrimage and make it up immediately.
Sexual contact short of intercourse is also forbidden, but it does not invalidate the rites even if ejaculation occurs.
A woman shares the same rulings as a man except in matters of clothing, covering the head, and being shaded by a canopy. Gloves are forbidden for both. A woman’s ihram concerns her face: she must not cover it, though she may lower a cloth in front of it when needed.
