1 - Denying his messengership (peace and blessings be upon him), declaring him a liar, or doubting his truthfulness.
2 - Denying that he is the Seal of the Prophets, claiming prophethood after him (peace and blessings be upon him), believing someone who makes such a claim, or doubting that such a claimant is lying.
3 - Denying the universality of his message (peace and blessings be upon him). This includes believing or claiming that he was sent exclusively to the Arabs, that Jews and Christians are not obliged to follow him, or that anyone may legitimately depart from his revealed law (peace and blessings be upon him), such as a “philosopher” (1), a Sufi “gnostic” (2), or others like them.
(1) According to them, the messengers brought revealed laws so that ordinary people could benefit from them in managing their worldly affairs, not so that they could know the truth; for, in their view, there is in reality neither resurrection nor reckoning. The philosopher has attained a degree of perfection at which he has no need of what the messengers brought; his wisdom renders him independent of following them.

(2) For, according to them, when someone reaches the station of fanā’ (annihilation) in tawhīd al-rubūbiyya (affirming Allah’s oneness in lordship) and witnesses the divine will pertaining to destiny = he goes along with it and sets aside the commands and prohibitions. The fully realized ‘ārif (gnostic) may follow the religion of the Jews or Christians.
