300 – Kharijah b. Hudhafah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “Allah has now granted you a prayer that is better for you than red camels.” We asked, “And what is it, O Messenger of Allah?” He replied, “The witr, to be performed any time after the ‘Isha’ prayer until the break of dawn.” Narrated by the Five, except al-Nasa’i, and al-Hakim declared it authentic. ⦗1⦘

Ahmad also transmitted a similar report from ‘Amr b. Shu‘ayb, from his father, from his grandfather. ⦗2⦘

Hadith grading: The hadith is authentic. In at-Talkhis it is summarized as follows: it was recorded by Ahmad, Abu Dawud, al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, al-Darqutni (2/30), and al-Hakim on the authority of Kharijah b. Hudhafah, although al-Bukhari considered it weak. Its supporting reports are:
1 – From Mu‘adh, in Ahmad (21590); the chain is weak and interrupted.
2 – From ‘Amr b. al-‘As and ‘Uqbah b. ‘Amir, in al-Tabarani (8/65); it is weak.
3 – From Abu Basrah, narrated by Ahmad (26687), al-Hakim (3/687), and al-Tahawi; it contains Ibn Lahi‘ah, who is weak.
4 – From Ibn ‘Abbas, recorded by al-Darqutni (2/30); its chain includes Abu ‘Umar al-Khazzaz, who is weak and abandoned.
5 – From Ibn ‘Umar, cited by Ibn Hibban in al-Du‘afa’; he judged it fabricated.
6 – From ‘Abd Allah b. ‘Amr b. al-‘As, narrated by Ahmad (6880) and al-Darqutni.
