but it is established that ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn said, “Then he gave the salām.”
The editor remarks: “This prostration took place after the salām, as the original wording clearly indicates; it is the ḥadīth of Dhū al-Yadayn.”
2 – The ḥadīth explicitly states that the Prophet recited the tashahhud after the two prostrations of forgetfulness. That is the view held by a group of scholars and the well-known position in the Hanbali and Maliki schools. Their proof is this very ḥadīth.
Sharḥ al-Zād says: “If the prostration of forgetfulness is performed after the salām, one should sit, recite the final tashahhud—obligatorily—and then give the salām, because it is regarded as an independent act of prayer.”
The second opinion is that he gives the salām without repeating the tashahhud. This was chosen by Shaykh Taqī al-Dīn and preferred by al-Muwaffaq and the commentator, on the grounds that the tashahhud is not mentioned in the sound narrations; indeed, those narrations point to the opposite.
