265 – From ʿAbdullāh ibn Buḥaynah (may Allah be pleased with him): “The Prophet ﷺ led them in the ẓuhr prayer. After the first two rakʿahs he rose without sitting, and the people rose with him. When he had completed the prayer and the congregation were waiting for him to pronounce the salām, he said the takbīr while seated, performed two prostrations before the salām, and then gave the salām.” The Seven have transmitted it, and the wording here is that of al-Bukhārī.
In another narration reported by Muslim: “He said the takbīr for each prostration while seated, and the people prostrated with him to make up for the sitting he had forgotten.” (1)

• and he did not sit: i.e., between those first two rakʿahs and the last two rakʿahs, in the ẓuhr prayer, as stated in Musnad al-Sarrāj.
• qaḍā: formative verb yaqḍī, qaḍāʾan; qaḍā his prayer meaning he finished it and was on the verge of the salām. Among the verb’s various senses is “to finish,” which is what is meant here.
