Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

261 – Abū Umāmah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever recites the Throne Verse after every obligatory prayer, nothing will bar him from entering Paradise except death.” Related by al-Nasaʾī, and Ibn Ḥibbān graded it authentic.
Al-Ṭabarānī adds: “and ‘Say: He is Allah, the One’ (112:1).” (1)

Degree of authenticity
The ḥadith is ṣaḥīḥ (sound). Shaykh Ṣiddīq Ḥasan writes in Nuzul al-Abrār: “It was transmitted by al-Nasaʾī and Ibn Ḥibbān. In its chain is al-Ḥasan ibn Bishr; al-Nasaʾī said, ‘there is no harm in him,’ while Abū Ḥātim remarked, ‘the rest of its narrators are those used by al-Bukhārī and Muslim.’ Al-Ṭabarānī also recorded it through two isnāds, one of which is sound.”

Concerning al-Ṭabarānī’s addition, “and ‘Say: He is Allah, the One,’” al-Mundhirī commented, “Its chain with this addition is good,” and Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid states, “This addition is supported by two isnāds, one of which is good.”

Glossary of ḥadith terms
• “except death”: an implied word has been omitted; the meaning is “except that he has not yet died.”
• “obligatory” (maktūbah): from kataba, yaktubu, kitāban; among its meanings is “to make something compulsory,” which is what is meant here—namely, the prescribed prayers.
• “Throne Verse”: that is, “Allah—there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer. Neither drowsiness nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what lies before them and what is behind them …” (al-Baqarah 2:255)
