Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

Muʿādh, I truly love you; therefore, never neglect to say after every prayer….” This affection of the Messenger for a servant is a sure sign of happiness in this life and the next. Moreover, the report itself belongs to the category of musalsal traditions, each transmitter conveying it alongside this gracious phrase of endearment.

6 – The ḥadīth strongly urges the regular recitation of these noble supplications, for it contains a direct prohibition against omitting them—language that could even be taken to imply obligation.

Shaykh al-Islām said: “In sum, it is recommended that when a servant completes his prayer, seeks Allah’s forgiveness, and glorifies, extols, praises, and magnifies Him with the prescribed post-prayer remembrances, he should then invoke blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ and make whatever supplication he wishes. For supplication after this act of worship is among the times most likely to be answered—especially after praising Allah alone, lauding Him, and sending prayers upon His Messenger. That, indeed, is the most effective means for obtaining benefits and warding off harm. Concealing the supplication is also recommended, for it offers several advantages:
– it fosters sincerity toward Allah and guards against showing off;
– it gathers the heart and engenders humility while conversing with Allah Most High;
– it protects against distractions and interruptions;
– and it brings other benefits that come with maintaining secrecy with one’s Lord.

Thus, making one’s remembrance, supplication, and invocation of blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ quietly is, in general, the superior course—except when a weightier consideration calls for audible recitation.

7 – “And the excellence of Your worship”: the intent of this phrase is that the servant disengage from whatever distracts him from Allah and diverts him from His remembrance and worship, so that he may devote himself wholly to intimate discourse with his Lord. In this way the prayer becomes the coolness of his eyes and a relief from his cares and sorrows, enabling him to attain the perfection of iḥsān, which the Prophet ﷺ defined as “to worship Allah as though you see Him.” (Muslim, 1)

8 – The ḥadīth also shows the Prophet’s ﷺ earnest concern for whatever benefits his community, elevates their ranks, and ennobles their standing with their Lord. May Allah’s blessings and peace be upon him: he conveyed the message, fulfilled the trust, and sincerely advised the ummah.
