Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

– And grant me well-being among those to whom You have granted well-being: spare me the ailments and calamities from which You have spared others, and safeguard my religion as well from the diseases of doubts and desires.

– And take charge of me among those whom You have taken into Your charge: assume every aspect of my affair with a universal guardianship among Your creatures, and grant me a special guardianship so that I may be counted among Your allies and triumphant party. Take full control of my affairs and do not leave me to myself or to anyone else.

– And bless for me what You have given: barakah (blessing) is abundant good—growth and increase—so place blessing in whatever You have bestowed upon me of lifespan, wealth, children, knowledge, and deeds.

– And protect me from the evil of what You have decreed: “mā” here is a relative pronoun meaning “that which.” Protect me from the evil found within Your created beings, for evil does not pertain to Your act itself, but rather to what You have created. Hence the ḥadith: “Good is in Your hands, and evil is not attributed to You,” and His saying, “Say, ‘I seek refuge in the Lord of daybreak from the evil of what He has created’” (al-Falaq 113:1-2). Some of Allah’s creatures may contain harm, yet the evil placed in them exists only for a profound wisdom and benefit.

– Indeed, You decree: You judge and determine whatever You will.

– And none can pass judgment over You: no ruling can be imposed upon You, nor can Your decree be overturned. You do whatever You wish and judge as You will: “He is not questioned about what He does, whereas they will be questioned” (al-Anbiyāʾ 21:23). Nevertheless, Allah—glorified be He—obliges Himself and rules: “He has prescribed mercy for Himself” (al-Anʿām 6:12), and in the sacred ḥadith: “I have forbidden oppression for Myself.”

– Indeed, he whom You befriend will never be humiliated: the one whom You befriend and support will never suffer disgrace or defeat. “Whoever desires honor—then to Allah belongs all honor” (Fāṭir 35:10); “Allah has decreed: ‘I will surely prevail, I and My messengers’” (al-Mujādilah 58:21).

– Blessed are You, our Lord: Your goodness is abundant, expansive for Your creation, and Your favor encompasses all of them.
