Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

247 – From Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me words to recite in the qunūt of witr:
‘O Allah, guide me among those You have guided; grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being; take me into Your care among those You have taken into Your care; bless for me what You have given; and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. For You decree and none decrees over You, and none whom You befriend is ever disgraced. Blessed are You, our Lord, and Exalted.’” It was narrated by the Five.

al-Ṭabarānī and al-Bayhaqī add: “and none whom You oppose is ever honored.”

al-Nasāʾī, through another chain, also adds at the end: “and may Allah, Most High, send blessings upon the Prophet.” (1)

al-Bayhaqī likewise records from Ibn ʿAbbās: “The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to teach us a supplication that we would say in the qunūt of the dawn prayer,” but its chain is weak. (2)

– Degree of authenticity –
The ḥadīth itself is sound. al-Nawawī stated in al-Majmūʿ and in Kitāb al-Adhkār that it was related by Abū Dāwūd, al-Tirmidhī, al-Nasāʾī, and others with a ṣaḥīḥ chain. It was authenticated by al-Ḥākim and Ibn al-Mulaqqin, and al-Albānī likewise judged its isnād sound. As for the addition recorded by al-Ṭabarānī and al-Bayhaqī, “and none whom You oppose is ever honored,” al-Nawawī deemed it weak, whereas Ibn Ḥajar and Ibn al-Mulaqqin considered it strengthened. Regarding the addition reported by al-Nasāʾī, “and may Allah, Most High, send blessings upon the Prophet,” its chain is ḥasan.
