Benefit:
Ibn al-Mulaqqin writes in his commentary on al-ʿUmda: In this supplication the Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—ascended through three levels:
(a) first he asked for what befits servitude, namely to be kept at a distance (from sins);
(b) then he rose to ask for purification;
(c) then he ascended further to ask for washing, which is the most emphatic of them all.
