ʿĀzib, who watched the Prophet’s prayer from the moment he stood for it: his bowing, his straightening after bowing, his prostration, and his sitting after the prostration until the taslīm (concluding salutation) and his turning away, and he observed that all these postures were nearly equal in length.

Ibn al-Mulaqqin said in his commentary on al-ʿUmda: “Be aware that the obligations of the prayer fall into two categories: those on which there is consensus and those over which there is disagreement. This ḥadith was not meant to catalogue every obligation, but only to list the elements that this particular worshipper had neglected and was ignorant of in his prayer. Many jurists have inferred from it that whatever is mentioned therein is obligatory and whatever is omitted is not. Nevertheless, by consensus the ḥadith was never intended to delineate the non-obligatory sunnahs of the prayer.”
