170 – Ibn ʿUmar (may Allah be pleased with them) reported that the Prophet ﷺ forbade performing prayer in seven locations: the rubbish dump (al-mazbalah), the slaughterhouse (al-majzarah), the cemetery, the middle of the road, the bathhouse, camel resting-grounds, and on the roof of the House of Allah Most High (the Kaʿbah). Al-Tirmidhī narrated it and classed it as weak (1).
Hadith grading: This report is weak.
It was transmitted by al-Tirmidhī, Ibn Mājah (746), al-Ṭaḥāwī, and al-Bayhaqī (2/329) through the chain of Zayd ibn Jubayrah, from Dāwūd ibn al-Ḥuṣayn, from Nāfiʿ, from Ibn ʿUmar.
Al-Bayhaqī said: “Zayd ibn Jubayrah is the sole transmitter of it.” Al-Bukhārī stated: “His hadith is very munkar.” Al-Tirmidhī observed: “He is not strong.” Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr affirmed: “The scholars unanimously agree that it is weak.” Al-Ḥāfiẓ (Ibn Ḥajar) ruled it “abandoned.” In Talkhīṣ al-Ḥabīr he added: “Ibn Mājah’s chain contains ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar al-ʿUmari, and he is weak.”
Vocabulary of the ḥadith:
