—because of the ḥadath (state of minor ritual impurity).
-
It is unlawful for the person who falls into ḥadath during the prayer to remain in it and complete it, even merely in form; every ḥadath that prevents one from starting the prayer likewise prevents one from continuing it. Performing the prayer without ablution is a mockery of the religion and a trivialization of its sacred rites.
-
All forms of ḥadath that nullify ablution carry the same ruling as the emission of wind with regard to the regulations mentioned above.
-
This ḥadith has been set against the earlier report from ʿĀʾishah which states that if someone vomits, suffers a nosebleed, or emits pre-ejaculatory fluid while praying, he should break off, perform ablution, and then resume his prayer from the point where he stopped so long as he has not spoken. In fact, there is no contradiction: the present ḥadith is more authentic, whereas the report attributed to ʿĀʾishah has been subject to criticism.
