Tawḍīḥ al-AḥkāmAbd Allah al-Bassam

• “O Most Merciful of the merciful.”

The scholars have examined these additional phrases and clarified that they are not authentic; one is therefore required to limit himself to what has been soundly reported from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

  1. This ḥadith contains two supplementary acts by which the benefit of this supplication is attained:
    a) Answering the muʾadhdhin with the very words he utters, except for the two ḥayya-ʿalā phrases, as noted earlier.
    b) Invoking blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ, for such blessings serve as the gateway to supplication.

Benefit: In Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim (384) it is narrated from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ that he heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, “When you hear the muʾadhdhin, repeat what he says; then send blessings upon me; then ask Allah to grant me al-Wasīlah. Whoever asks Allah to grant me al-Wasīlah, my intercession becomes binding for him.”

End of Volume One

Volume Two follows, beginning with “Chapter: The Conditions of Prayer.”
