(b) His ﷺ statement: “Appoint a mu’adhdhin who does not take payment for his adhān.” [Abu Dāwūd 531; al-Tirmidhī 155].
(c) And his ﷺ statement: “The mu’adhdhin is a trustee.” [Abu Dāwūd 517; al-Nasāʾī 207].
(d) The Prophet ﷺ once heard Abū Mahdhūrah’s adhān and was pleased with the beauty of his voice, so he taught him the wording of the adhān. [Ibn Khuzaymah 377].
Thus, the texts that mention the qualities required of the mu’adhdhin are many.
-
Islam is a condition for the validity of the mu’adhdhin; the adhān of a non-Muslim is not accepted, as indicated by his ﷺ words: “Let one of you give the adhān for you.”
-
The adhān is only valid once the time of the prayer has actually begun. An exception has already been noted for the dawn prayer on the strength of authentic hadiths.
-
Raising the voice in the adhān is obligatory, for its purpose is to inform the people that the time has entered.
