4. The adhān and the iqāmah are legislated only for the five prescribed daily prayers. They are not prescribed for supererogatory prayers, funeral prayers, the ʿĪd prayers, the rain-seeking prayer, or the eclipse prayer. Al-Nawawī said, “They are not legislated for anything other than the five obligatory prayers,” and this is the view adopted by the majority of scholars, early and late.
